What Tavern Is

The plain version: Tavern is a character sheet that helps you play faster.

What is Tavern?
Tavern is an independent companion app for 2014 and 2024 fifth-edition play. It keeps characters, dice rolls, attacks, spells, buffs, resources, notes, homebrew, print sheets, campaigns, and table tools in one place.
Who should use it?
Tavern is for players who want fewer lookups on their turn, DMs who want smoother table flow, and groups that want digital help without making the session feel like spreadsheet work.
Can I try Tavern before signing up?
Yes. Open the public tour sheet to click through a real character sheet without logging in.
Is Tavern official?
No. Tavern is independent tabletop software and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or approved by any game publisher. SRD content is credited on the Attribution page.
Imports

Characters and Tavern Equivalents

Imports are designed to make your character playable while keeping public content launch-safe.

What happens when I import a character?
Tavern reads the character choices, rebuilds the sheet, and maps unsupported or non-SRD labels into Tavern equivalents where needed. The goal is that your attacks, bonuses, spells, resources, and features still work in play.
Why did a spell, feat, subclass, or item name change?
Some names and feature text are not part of the open SRD content Tavern can ship publicly. Tavern uses equivalent names, short Tavern-authored summaries, and editable sheet entries so your mechanics still have a useful place to live.
Does Tavern provide paid sourcebook text or artwork?
No. Tavern does not provide paid sourcebook prose, artwork, logos, trade dress, or copied feature descriptions. Imports convert player choices into SRD rules, Tavern equivalents, placeholders, or user-authored text.
Can I customize names and notes for my own table?
Yes. You can edit your own sheet, homebrew, notes, and table-facing labels. If you publish or share content, you are responsible for making sure you have the right to share what you entered.
Playing

Sheets, Rolls, Buffs, and Printouts

The sheet is meant to keep the buttons you need near the moment you need them.

Can Tavern roll attacks and damage?
Yes. Tavern can roll attacks, damage, spells, saves, skill checks, initiative, and common class or feature riders. Character-specific toggles such as advantage, buffs, and damage modifiers are kept near the roll flow.
Can I apply buffs and temporary effects?
Yes. Tavern supports active buffs and sheet modifiers so temporary effects can affect attacks, saves, checks, AC, and other roll math without rewriting the whole character.
Can I print my character sheet?
Yes. Tavern includes a print layout built for table reference: core stats, attacks, saves, spellcasting, equipment, notes, and character details. Use browser preview before printing to PDF or paper.
What if a roll or feature is wrong?
Send the character, the feature name, what Tavern did, and what you expected to support@tavernapp.gg. Accuracy issues on imports, attacks, spells, buffs, and print layout are launch-priority fixes.
Creation

Homebrew and Campaign Tools

Tavern is built for the tables that always have one custom rule, item, or spell.

Can I create homebrew?
Yes. Tavern supports homebrew items, weapons, feats, traits, races, classes, spells, conditions, and monsters. You can make your own entries and attach them to characters or campaigns.
Can I use an existing magic item as a template?
Yes. Magic item templates are available so you can start from a familiar structure, change the details, then save it as your own homebrew item.
Do homebrew spells appear on the character sheet?
Yes. Homebrew spells can be created in Tavern and then selected for compatible characters, including spell details, attack or save info, damage, and casting notes.
What campaign tools are planned or included?
Tavern already supports campaigns and table flow features, with DM-focused tools such as VTT maps, initiative, Discord roll support, and DM utilities tied to the paid launch path.
Account

Pricing, Privacy, and Support

Start free, upgrade when Tavern is helping your table enough to be worth it.

Is Tavern free?
Yes. The Adventurer tier is free and includes enough to build, share, print, roll, join campaigns, and try the core app before paying.
What do paid tiers add?
Player, Dungeon Master, and Founder tiers are designed to support heavier use: unlimited characters, priority support, campaign hosting, VTT tools, DM features, and Founder recognition.
Are my characters private?
Characters are private to your account unless you join a campaign or create a share link. Share links are bearer links, so anyone with the URL can view that sheet until you rotate or remove the link.
How do I delete my data?
Use account settings to delete your account and characters. If you cannot access your account, email support@tavernapp.gg.

Still stuck?

Send the character link, what you clicked, and what you expected. The more specific the report, the faster it gets fixed.
